Precious Diamond Brooch of Art Deco Made of Platinum, ca. 1930

In the wild years of the Weimar Republic, the big city is THE place for modern life. Roaring automobiles and streetcars, jazz cafes and movie palaces, every pleasure and every modern invention is found here and determines the rhythm of modernity. It is no wonder that the big city has also become a favorite theme in the arts: It can be found in Lesser Ury's paintings, it forms the stage for Alfred Döblin's Alexanderplatz, it becomes the subject of film in Metropolis. The brooch here, also a child of those seductive (and seduced) years, has reminded us of the romp of the big city. Powerful lines form the design. At right angles they overlap as in Mondrian's paintings. In the center the shapes form overlapping waves, in which straight blocks of diamond are set. The design quivers with power and tension. And glows as seductively as Art Deco jewellery can glow. Made entirely of platinum, every opportunity is taken to showcase the most beautiful diamonds. The solid platinum brooch is set with approximately 5.46 ct of diamonds. One large old European cut diamond forms the center. Baguette cut diamonds, in various set cuts and other old European cut diamonds accompany it. All the stones are white or only slightly tinted white, the result is an exciting feast of light. We discovered the brooch in Stuttgart. It is in first class condition. Based on its design, we date it to around 1930. An independent certificate has confirmed the quality of the materials.
