The quality criteria of an emerald include its colour, purity and luminosity. The colour is said to be reminiscent of the light of the rainforest. This rich, warm green, which does not tarnish into blue, is called "Muzo Green". There should be as few inclusions as possible in the stone, the so-called "jardin", although there will always be some inclusions, because there is no such thing as a completely clear emerald. And the stone should have a soft light that seems to shine as if through a gentle veil, the "Gota De Aceite", the so-called oil drop. The ring here, dating from around 1970, presents at its center an emerald to which these quality characteristics apply. The 2.80 ct stone shines in an intense, soft and warm green and it is very clear. It is oval faceted and transports the gaze and thoughts to a distant tropical land full of sprawling vegetation. The ring itself is designed in the shape of a ballerina ring. It is a variation of the classic entourage ring, that is, the ring shape in which a large central stone is framed by a wreath of diamonds. In ballerina rings, the surrounding diamonds are now no longer brilliant cut, but baguettes and trapezoids are chosen, reminiscent of the folds of a fanned-out tutu seen from above: just as if one were looking out of an opera box at the ballerinas, as Degas was so fond of painting. All the diamonds used here are of exquisite quality and shine in brilliant white. In total there are about 4.44 ct diamonds arranged around the wonderful emerald. The stones are set in high quality white gold. We have also had an independent appraisal made for the ring in Idar-Oberstein. It is delivered together with the ring.
