Precious White Gold Necklace with Sapphire & Diamonds, Germany c. 1975

The combination of sapphire and diamond is one of the great classics of jewelry history. In the juxtaposition of deep midnight blue and clear, sparkling white, the gemstones enhance each other's effect: both colors appear more intense, their radiance is visually intensified. This harmonious tension between coolness and brilliance is what has made the combination so popular for centuries - from Augustus the Strong's sapphire set to modern haute joaillerie pieces such as the Ocean Tiara by Van Cleef & Arpels. This necklace also draws its effect from this luxurious combination. It dates from around 1975 and is made from high-carat white gold. A flat, supple foxtail chain features a flexible centerpiece with a curved shape reminiscent of elegantly draped ribbons. Brilliant-cut and 8/8-cut white diamonds are set in this filigree structure, reflecting the light in many facets. As a special eye-catcher, a dark blue sapphire faceted into a drop is attached in the center. The sapphire, which weighs around 1.50 carats, is framed by further brilliant-cut diamonds, making a total of around 1.35 carats of diamonds. The high-quality workmanship by hand, the high-quality materials and the very good state of preservation make this necklace a sparkling vintage treasure. It found its way to us here in Berlin and comes with a detailed appraisal.
