An extensive collection of 64 original Presto Films is offered, mainly from the early period of the series and published in 1935. The Presto Films were small, French-language Belgian youth booklets that were issued weekly by Averbode from 1934 onwards. The booklets are intentionally small in format (about 12.5 × 17 cm) and typically contain around 32 pages. The small size is thus original and not a reduced edition. The collection is of particular interest because of its age, the large number of copies, the good condition, and the original illustrated covers. The covers feature a variety of adventure, detective, historical, and fantastic stories and provide a nice view of Belgian youth literature from the mid-1930s. Notable copies in the collection The collection includes several interesting early issues, among others: * No. 5 – Tito, Tita, la fée Urgèle et le nain Obéron * No. 7 – La Traite * No. 15 – Presto Film by John Flanders * No. 35 – Les Aventures de Pin Parasol et de sa sœur la Limande * No. 39 – L’Étonnant voyage du clown Potiquet * No. 41 – Dans les neiges * No. 55 – La Reine Astrid * No. 70 – Le Trésor des Montargel * No. 79 – En fuite * No. 81 – L’Oiseau mystérieux – John Flanders * No. 84 – La Singulière Babet Brown – John Flanders * No. 87 – Le Vallon qui chante – John Flanders * No. 89 – Le Feu vert – John Flanders * No. 104 – La Griffe du léopard * No. 106 – Vers les pôles A particular point of interest for collectors is the presence of several works related to John Flanders (Jean Ray). The specialized bibliography of Jean Ray/John Flanders lists several Presto Films as part of his French-language oeuvre, including numbers 15, 81, 84, 87, and 89. No. 89 – Le Feu vert is notable. This issue is specifically cataloged as a John Flanders Presto Film from 1936, and copies have been offered on the specialized second-hand market. Also No. 81 – L’Oiseau mystérieux and the other John Flanders numbers mentioned above are of interest to collectors. In addition, No. 55 – La Reine Astrid stands out because of its historical subject and early publication date. Condition: Given the approximately 90-year age, the booklets are in varying used condition. The copies are original and not restored. Normal signs of age and wear are present on several booklets, including: * wear to corners and edges; * small creases and folds; * yellowing due to age; * light damage to some covers; * in a few copies more noticeable tears or damage. The series are carefully and protectively packed.
