Alle Auktionen / Etnografica / Primitive sponge!!! - Pirania + Conularia + Bivalves...

Spectacular specimens of a primitive sponge Pirania, from the Demospongiae group. The preservation is extraordinary, allowing the delicate tissues of the sponge, its fusiform shape, and its fine spines to be appreciated. A high-quality specimen. In addition, the plates contain several specimens of hyoliths, bivalves, and a conularea. These animals lived attached to the substrate, possibly forming colonies. Specimens with this level of preservation are extremely rare. The contrast between the fossils and the matrix is spectacular. The extraordinary preservation of the fossil allows observing in great detail the morphology and the delicate structures of Pirania. The preparation has been extremely laborious, since the fossil is extremely delicate. A museum-worthy specimen. Largest measurements of Pirania: 22x10 mm Plate 1: 174 g; 9.5 x 9 x 1.5 cm Plate 2: 155 g; 9.5 x 7.5 x 1.5 cm Plastic supports included. The fossil sites of the Fezouata Formation, near the Moroccan town of Zagora, are providing a rich and varied record of fossils with extraordinary preservation, to the point that even soft parts or soft-bodied animals are recorded with some frequency. This type of preservation is similar, though later in time, to that of the famous Burgess Shale (Canada). These are fossils dating from between 480 and 472 million years ago. At that time Morocco was an ocean and located near the South Pole. Specime
