Across acrylic, decalcomanies and transfers of matter, Ralf Altrieth conjures up a gallery of imaginary figures that seem to brush against each other, respond to one another, or simply evolve side by side, as in a world whose rules belong only to him. The bold colors and the layers of material give the surface a great richness. The black lines structure the shapes, while the touches, traces and transfers reveal different strata of paint. The whole retains a very direct spontaneity, but also a true sense of rhythm and composition. Between free figuration, instinctive drawing and graphic poetry, this work does not aim to tell a precise story. It opens up a space where the imagination can circulate freely.
