Alle Auktionen / Zeitgenössische Kunst / Ralf Altrieth - Décidémentales 4 - XXL
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to burst forth in a free, instinctive impulse. Then the gaze lingers—and gradually discovers a lush universe where characters and improbable shapes appear to evolve with a freedom as deliberate as it is strikingly surprising. Nothing is fixed. Each detail participates in a living composition that reveals itself progressively with distance, light, and the time spent before it. In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Silhouettes appear, transform, sometimes disappear in favor of other presences. The gaze circulates without ever tiring, guided from one discovery to the next. Seeing becomes an active, playful, almost physical experience. Beneath its apparent spontaneity, the work reveals a remarkable balance. The lines, colors, and rhythms interweave with a freedom that is perfectly mastered, giving rise to a scene where the imaginary seems to invent itself as it unfolds. But beyond its immediate energy, this painting settles durably in space. Through its visual density. Through its discreet humor. And through this rare capacity to transform a wall into a territory of exploration, where every new look reveals a detail, a character, or a relationship previously overlooked. From the crucible of improvisation, he forges a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses." — Dr. Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director "His writing by gesture and color describes a world open to new voices and experiences never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression on the contemporary scene." — Laurent Puech, art historian and curator MARGES: The indicated dimensions correspond to the work once mounted on its stretcher.
