RAPHAEL (RAFFAELLO SANTI). An illustrated album dedicated to the work of Raphael. Published by SIO-MAT, Italy, mid-20th century. An elegant illustrated album dedicated to Raphael, one of the greatest masters of the Italian Renaissance. The volume traces the artistic evolution of the painter from Urbino through a substantial selection of reproductions of his paintings, drawings, and preparatory studies, accompanied by a detailed chronology of his career. The reproductions place particular emphasis on the Madonnas, religious compositions, and works commissioned by Popes Julius II and Leo X, as well as the famous decorations of the Vatican Stanze. Several studies and close-ups of works allow readers to appreciate the finesse of his drawing and his pursuit of the classical ideal, which made Raphael one of the most admired artists in the history of Western art. A large-format album richly illustrated in black and white. Paperback with a photographic cover depicting the dome of the Pantheon in Rome. Text in Italian. Condition: copy showing signs of wear and some staining on the cover; contents complete.
