RARE C.M. MITCHELL CAST IRON "SILENT SALESMAN" COIN OPERATED SHOE LACE VENDING MACHINE C. 1903. U.S. Patent No. 731,593 issued June 23, 1903. Portsmouth, Ohio. An exceptionally rare four-selection cast-iron shoe lace vending machine from the founding period of the Mitchell Manufacturing Company, later known as Mitchellace. Mitchell Manufacturing began by developing the vending machine, then manufacturing the laces to be sold in the machine, and ultimately becoming the Mitchellace Co., one of the largest manufacturers of shoe laces in the world. CONDITION: All original condition with aged patina. Patron deposits coin, selects one of 4 columns to be vended and turns knob to receive the laces. The machine is untested for vending the laces as an appropriate sized lace has not been found that works. The coin mech is operational at the time of description. The marquee is original iron, the sign is likely a replacement, and the instruction labels on the front are replacements. This is the only example of this rare vending machine we have seen. The stand is period and appropriate to display the machine. This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made. Condition: (Very Good).
