Rare Lobatus Goliath 312mm Shell - Height: 312 mm - Width: 225 mm- 2609 g - (1)

The Giant of the Brazilian Tropics — Lobatus Goliath - The giant of the Brazilian tropics Among the most imposing shells of the tropical Atlantic, Lobatus Goliath stands out for majesty and rarity. Endemic to the coasts of Brazil, this species represents one of the evolutionary peaks of the large strombies, with a shell that can exceed 30 cm in length. Unlike the better-known Lobatus gigas (the Caribbean queen conch), the goliath has a more compact profile, a thick outer color usually sandy yellow with calcareous patinas and a nacreous interior that fades to pink and salmon orange. The shell is heavy, thick, and particularly robust. The spires are relatively reduced compared to the globose and elongated body, with a large and glossy aperture. The outer lip, typically stromboid, widens dramatically in large adult specimens, while the exterior surface preserves traces of growth and marine corrosion. Lobatus Goliath is one of the shells highly sought after by naturalist collectors, not only for its size and beauty but also for its limited distribution. It is rare to find in commerce in intact and large sizes, like the specimen shown. Brazil rigorously protects its marine resources, making shell recovery not straightforward: they often come from ancient specimens collected decades ago and kept in historical collections. Taxonomic sheet Scientific name: Lobatus goliath (Schneider, 2001) Family: Strombidae Order: Littorinimorpha Class: Gastropoda Phylum: Mollusca Distribution: Endemic to Brazil (especially along the coasts of Bahia and Espírito Santo)
