Unlike the better-known Lobatus gigas (the queen shell of the Caribbean), the goliath features a more compact profile, a thick outer color usually sandy yellow with calcified patinas and a mother-of-pearl interior that fades into pink and salmon orange. The shell is heavy, thick, and particularly robust. The spires are relatively reduced compared to the globose and elongated body, with a wide and glossy aperture. The outer lip, typically strombiform, flares spectacularly in large adult specimens, while the external surface retains traces of growth and marine corrosion. Lobatus Goliath is one of the shells highly sought after by naturalist collectors, not only for its size and beauty but also for its limited distribution. It is rare to find on the market in intact, large specimens, like the example depicted. Brazil strictly protects its marine resources, making shell recovery not simple: they often come from ancient specimens, collected decades ago and preserved in historical collections.
