Your highlights at a glance: Species: Cypraea mappa / Leporicypraea mappa (Map Cypraea) Size: 75 mm (Very good, striking cabinet size) Locality: Bogo, Cebu, Philippines Condition: Naturally glossy, typically porcelain-like surface Special feature: Striking, high-contrast dorsal pattern and well-defined basal line Description & Background: The family of porcelain snails (Cypraeidae) is among the most sought-after objects in conchology. The naturally high-gloss glaze forms because the living animal coats its shell with the mantle, protecting it from deposits. This shell was collected from the reefs of Bogo (Cebu). The fine pattern on the dorsum is interrupted by an irregular, light longitudinal line—the exact point where the mantle meets, giving each shell an individual fingerprint.
