RARE YELLOW SULFUR on Aragonite

From our selection of collectible minerals, we propose a rare group of sulfur crystals on aragonite from Cozzo Disi, Agrigento, Sicily. Moreover, it is characterized by the vibrant color contrast between the yellow, glossy sulfur crystals with gemmy appearance, and the cream-colored crusts of aragonite that envelop them on a dark matrix, as well as the fluorescence and phosphorescence reported for the specimen, features that increase its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with characteristics that enhance its natural structure and visual impact. The sulfur from Cozzo Disi, one of the most famous Sicilian sulfide deposits active until the second half of the twentieth century, formed through the action of sulfate-reducing bacteria that transformed the gypsum of the evaporitic layers of the Caltanissetta-Agrigento Basin. Aragonite, the orthorhombic polymorph of calcium carbonate, crystallizes here in characteristic radiating and crustose aggregates of cream color. Both sulfur and aragonite can show luminescence phenomena under UV lamp, related to lattice defects and traces of impurities. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, displays, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the context of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with very rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best enhance colors and details; however, slight variations in tone may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
