RAREST lot of 3 Herkimer Diamonds — 9.33 carats...

Exceptional lot of three natural Herkimer Diamonds, selected for their remarkable crystal morphology, transparency, and above all the diversity of their internal architectures. Presented together, these three specimens offer a true comparative study of bi-terminated crystallization: each has its own geometry, its own inclusions, and a completely unique internal organization. The naturally developed terminations, the numerous reflective faces, and the almost geometric silhouettes give them the appearance of faceted stones, yet they are natural formations. Across their transparent zones, particularly complex internal landscapes appear, made up of veils, healed fractures, growth planes, inclusions and microstructures that testify to the different stages of their formation. With a total weight of 9.33 carats, an average of 3.11 carats per specimen, and dimensions around 10 mm per crystal, this lot constitutes a particularly aesthetic and coherent set. These are extremely rare specimens of bi-terminated quartz, sought after under the name “Herkimer Diamonds” for their spectacular natural morphology, their brilliance, and their visual resemblance to faceted stones. Characteristics - Collection name: Herkimer Diamonds - Number of specimens: 3 - Mineral nature: Natural bi-terminated quartz - Origin: Pakistan - Total weight: 9.33 carats - Average weight: 3.11 carats per specimen - Dimensions: About 10 mm per specimen - Morphology: Natural bi-terminated crystals - Color: Colorless to very light smoky depending on areas - Transparency: Transparent to locally translucent - Luster: Intense vitreous - Surface: Natural faces and terminations - Internal structure: Complex and different for each of the three crystals - Particularities: Growth planes, veils, natural fractures and visible inclusions - Interest: Mineral collection, crystallography, loupe and macrophotography observation Three specimens, three unique natural architectures The major interest of this lot lies in the possibility of observing side by side three different expressions of the same crystal morphology. The first specimen presents a very balanced silhouette, almost bipyramidal, with a strongly contrasted internal zone where dark-brown inclusions appear. The second stands out for a particularly pronounced termination and a dense internal architecture, offering a succession of reflective planes that become visible depending on the light orientation. The third has a more massive and symmetrical silhouette, with a great richness of internal microstructures giving the crystal remarkable depth. Together, they are much more than just a lot: they allow comparison of three distinct growth histories. A morphology that seems to have been cut by human hands One of the most fascinating features of these crystals is their natural geometry. Their flat faces, edges, and terminations can give the impression that they were deliberately faceted. Yet this architecture results directly from their crystal growth. This spectacular appearance is precisely the reason for the historical interest in crystals marketed under the name Herkimer Diamonds. Under directional lighting, each face acts as a small mirror and successively reflects the light, giving the crystals an especially intense shine. Crystal landscapes imprisoned in matter The transparency of these specimens allows us to observe their structure well beyond their surface. The gaze penetrates through certain faces before encountering growth planes, reflective natural fractures and various inclusions. These elements produce a succession of depths and reflections that continually evolve as the crystals are turned. Some internal structures appear silvery, while others take on light smoky, brown or golden hues. Each crystal thus constitutes a true mineralogical microcosm, whose details become even more impressive under magnification. A geological history recorded in each crystal A natural crystal is never defined solely by its exterior shape. During growth, environmental variations can leave different signatures in its structure: growth interruptions, microfractures, imprisoned inclusions or resorption of crystallization. These features today become as many visible clues to its history. This is particularly interesting in a lot like this, since the three specimens allow simultaneous observation of several internal configurations and several morphologies. The history of the “Herkimer Diamond” The name “Herkimer Diamond” originates from the famous bi-terminated crystals discovered in the Herkimer region of New York. Their remarkable transparency, brilliance and especially their natural terminations earned them an early comparison with diamond. They have gradually become emblematic specimens for mineral collectors. Bi-terminated crystallizations are also found in other parts of the world, so it is important to distinguish this collection name from geographic provenance: the origin of this lot is clearly indicated in the features. An especially interesting ensemble for the collection An isolated crystal allows appreciation of a particular formation. A coherent lot of three specimens allows examining their variations. The three crystals here have a relatively close size, around 10 mm, while each retains a distinct visual identity. This dimensional coherence makes the set particularly pleasant to display in a showcase, under a loupe, or in a collection dedicated to natural crystallizations. The total weight of 9.33 carats corresponds to a precise average of 3.11 carats per crystal. A remarkable potential in macrophotography Under macro objective, these three specimens reveal an additional level of complexity. The large transparent faces become windows into the internal structures, while the inclusions, veils and reflective planes produce completely different compositions from one crystal to another. The presence of three individuals also makes it possible to carry out a particularly interesting comparative photographic study. A singular collection lot This lot brings together three natural bi-terminated crystals, each with its own morphology, its own distribution of inclusions, and its own character. The contrast between their very orderly external geometry and the complexity of their internal structures is one of the most fascinating aspects of the set. With a total of 9.33 carats, an average of 3.11 carats per specimen, and dimensions of about 10 mm, these three Herkimer Diamonds form a particularly harmonious ensemble intended for both the collector and the crystallography and mineralogy enthusiast. Three crystals, three architectures and three different growth histories gathered in a single exceptional lot.
