Reint de Jonge original cover painting - Rumoer in oerwoud - 1979

Reint de Jonge (1931 - 1993) lived in De Zilk, but had his studio in the rear part of De Spar. Here follows a section from the in memoriam by journalist Ineke van Haga: 'Reint's life changed when he established himself as a freelance painter. However, not before he had first signed on aboard all kinds of ships. Sailing is indispensable for a seascape painter, and besides being a seaman, Reint came to know the sea aboard herring-salting ships, the hospitaller ship ‘De Hoop’, tugboats of Smit Internationale and Wijsmuller, HRMs ‘De Ruyter’ and the SS ‘Nieuw Amsterdam’. In addition, he felt at home in many fields. His illustrations were highly sought after by publishers for books, a New Testament and a children's Bible. He also made drawings for television programs of several broadcasters. Besides painting landscapes, for which he drew inspiration in France and Ireland and in the Dutch dunes, his love lay in portraits, which he worked on with great devotion. Sensitive as he was to moods and his surroundings, he had found a fine studio in Aerdenhout, where he enjoyed every season. In the spring: ‘Even the mistle thrushes can’t get enough of it’, in the summer: ‘I feel like I’m in God’s little potato garden’. His studio was next to the Catholic church, where he occasionally accompanied the church service on the organ. He had many talents.' The etching was a hobby, which he practiced with a small group on Thursday evenings. In 1985 De Spar underwent a renovation. In connection with this, Reint donated a fine watercolor to the parish, depicting ‘The Last Supper’. This lot contains a beautiful watercolor, by Reint de Jonge, made in 1979 for the cover of the book 'Rumoer in het oerwoud', written by Henri Arnoldus. See photo 4 for an image of the book.
