reliquiario Gabon - Sculpture - Africa (No reserve price)

A wooden sculpture is a reliquary guardian figure known as Mbulu Ngulu, created by the Kota (or Bakota) people of Gabon. The flat or concave face, topped by a broad crescent-shaped headdress and side pieces, is a classic example of geometric abstraction that deeply influenced early 20th-century European modern art, particularly Cubism. Many complete traditional pieces were originally covered with thin sheets of hammered copper or brass.
