Lithography after René Magritte numbered in pencil. Exclusive edition and limited to 275 numbered copies, to which 45 off-market proofs are added, marked HC and numbered 1 to 45, of which 15 are reserved for the MAGRITTE Succession. The numbering may differ from that visible in the photograph. Inspired by the magic of One Thousand and One Nights and originally painted in 1948, Scheherazade embodies the pinnacle of the artist's poetic surrealism. Magritte revisited the reading of One Thousand and One Nights around 1946–1947. It is this literary immersion that directly inspired the design of a series of faces formed from pearls. The use of pearls is also seen as a subtle nod to the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer, transposed here into the realm of surrealist mystery. Dimensions: 45 x 60 cm The lithograph is signed on the plate by MAGRITTE and bears in the margin the dry stamps of the ADAGP, of the MAGRITTE Succession, as well as the paraph of its sole representative, Mr. Charly Herscovici, also President of the MAGRITTE Foundation and Chairman of the MAGRITTE Museum in Brussels. This lithograph was printed in Paris in 2010, on 100% cotton pure rag paper, BFK Rives, 300 g/m². International tracked and careful shipping.
