Reuge - Music box - Switzerland - 1950-1960 - Gilded Reuge music box

This elegant collectible is a vintage carillon in the shape of a carousel (merry-go-round) that also serves as a cigarette holder and lipstick case. It is a refined decorative piece produced between the 1940s and 1970s, born from the collaboration between the famous Swiss manufacturer Reuge, producer of the musical mechanism, and Italian artisans who crafted its decorative structure. Originally conceived as a salon cigarette holder, a symbol of elegance and hospitality, it was later adapted to hold lipsticks and small vanity accessories as well. Today it is regarded as a sought-after vintage piece thanks to its build quality and the charm of its mechanism. The carillon was equipped with a wind-up spring operated by a key placed on the bottom. Once activated, the mechanism opened the shutters like a real carousel, revealing the lined inner compartments and accompanying the movement with a musical melody. Condition of the piece The carillon needs servicing and the correct functioning of the musical mechanism is not guaranteed. The shutters open manually, still allowing full appreciation of the structure, aesthetics, and inner compartments. A possible specialized maintenance intervention could restore the original functions. Collectible interest These musical carousels have not been produced since the 1980s and today represent fascinating testimonies of post-war taste and craftsmanship. Even when they require restoration, they retain considerable decorative and collectible interest thanks to the combination of Swiss mechanics and Italian craftsmanship. The movement mechanisms need to be restored, while the carillon emits music when wound. The photos are an integral part of the description.
