Richard Prince (1949) - Richard Prince x Supreme - Signed

For sale: an artwork by the renowned internationally celebrated contemporary artist Richard Prince, in collaboration with the famous American luxury fashion, lifestyle, and streetwear house Supreme. This is a serigraphy on a skateboard deck dating from 2007, produced in a limited edition of 500 copies. What makes it special is that the artist personally signed it by hand in addition to his printed signature, which is extremely rare and makes it a true collector’s item. This copy was acquired at an auction of one of the world's largest skateboard publishers, which collaborates with the leading contemporary artists of this world, including JR, Pettibon, Cornella, Burgerman, Koons, Teller, Weiwei, Castelbajac, Nara, Balincourt, Holzer, Saraiva, Jean Jullien, ROA, Araki, and many others. An identical signed copy sold for more than €3,200 in 2018 at an auction in a prestigious Paris venue (see photo of the Richard Prince two-board set). Richard Prince is one of the reference figures in contemporary art, on par with his peers and fellow artists such as Shepard Fairey (Obey), C215, Jef Aérosol, JR, Swoon, Vhils, Felipe Pantone, Denial, Kaws, Banksy, Invader, Basquiat, Hirst, Lichtenstein, M.Chat, Sandra Chevrier, Stik, André Saraiva, Seen, Futura 2000, Imbue, JonOne, Dran, Stik, M. Brainwash, Arsham, Seth, JP Malot, etc. In 2018 he collaborated with the haute couture house Dior, and his value has continued to rise, reaching $12 million in 2021 at an auction in Hong Kong. An American photographer and painter, Richard Prince is one of the most famous figures on the international art scene since the appearance of his work in the 1970s. His work has been exhibited at the world's most prestigious institutions, such as the Whitney Museum in New York (1992), the Kunsthalle Zurich (2001), the Guggenheim Museum in New York (2007), the Kunsthaus Bregenz (2014), and more recently the Louis Vuitton Foundation (2018). From October 2019 to January 2020, Richard Prince presented the exhibition Portraits at the Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art. After a childhood near Boston, Richard Prince arrived in New York in the early 1970s and found work in the Time Life archives department, where he was responsible for organizing newspaper clippings by subject or author. His cut-and-paste of newspapers and magazines led him to become interested in the remnants that constitute advertisements, announcements, and comics that he began to collect. He mingled with a group of artists—including Robert Longo, Cindy Sherman, Sherrie Levine, and John Baldessari—based in the city. Their practice of appropriation and subversion of advertising and cultural images from this new consumer society aligned with his own. During a 1977 exhibition titled Pictures, American critic and curator Douglas Crimp theorized and described this movement as the Pictures Generation. Prince’s deeply postmodern practice consists of recycling popular culture (as well as certain more marginal cultures) and a fine, often humorous deconstruction of American imagery. To this end, Prince uses advertising images that he re-photographs, recut, enlarge, and/or reorganize into collages. Photographic ready-mades that toy with authorship and copyright, his works tend to reveal and mock certain stereotypes that shaped the American myth and fed the collective imagination. In the early 1980s, he gained fame with his famous Cowboys series drawn from Marlboro advertisements (1980–1984) idealizing masculine virility, later with the Gangs, focusing on motorcycle subculture and their lightly dressed girlfriends. From 1986, he began painting his Joke Paintings, reproducing on canvases typical juvenile jokes from popular culture. In 2002, he began the famous Nurses series dedicated to the eroticized and unsettling nurses who populate American pulp literature. True objects of worship in the United States, the 1960s customized cars, which he reproduces and then repaints on the hoods, also inspired works titled Car Hoods that oscillate between paintings and sculptures. Worldwide shipping, well protected.
