Rigobert Haeck (1912–2005) - Mama i Jej Rodzina

“Mama and Her Family” 3D Rigobert Haeck (1912–2005) – a remarkable set of three large, signed works – original Schleiper frames Artist: Rigobert Haeck (1912–2005) Birthplace: Leupegem, Belgium Died: Oudenaarde, Belgium Country: Belgium Period: 20th century Number of works: 3 Signatures: Haeck / H.K. Techniques: oil on masonite and graphic technique on paper Frames: original Schleiper frames Condition: very good Inventory numbers: preserved on the reverse of all three works Artistic style and period of creation Rigobert Haeck belongs to Belgian artists of the 20th century who moved between figuration and abstraction during their careers. His early work was figurative. In the postwar period he briefly developed towards lyrical abstraction, then returned to a very personal form of figurative art. According to art-historical sources, his later figuration evolved toward a strongly simplified and geometric artistic language, in which human figures and depicted motifs were built from clearly separated planes of color and geometric forms. Haeck drew inspiration from his immediate surroundings and nature, among other sources. Women, children, birds, plants, landscapes, and architectural elements frequently appear in his work. His compositions are characterized by strong lines, simplified forms, geometric structure, and fresh, intense color. Thus his painting cleverly combines figurative representation, lyrical abstraction, geometric stylization, and decorative expressiveness. This development is particularly significant in the works offered here: the first two compositions clearly display his characteristic geometric-figurative artistic language, while the third work presents a more painterly and graphic approach. Haeck was not only a painter but also a draftsman, graphic artist, etcher, ceramicist, sculptor, and weaver designer. His artistic activity thus encompassed many disciplines and techniques. Description of the set We offer a remarkable and highly decorative set of three large, original and signed works by the Belgian artist Rigobert Haeck (1912–2005). The three works form a coherent and particularly interesting group both stylistically and in presentation. All bear the artist’s signature and have inventory numbers preserved on the reverse. The presence of three numbers from the same series is especially interesting and may indicate that the works were previously registered, catalogued, or belonged to a single collection or set. On the reverses are the following markings: 1. H.A. 150 2. H.A. 147 3. H.A. 143 The original markings have survived on the backs of the works. 1. First composition A large and exceptionally decorative figural composition depicting a man, a woman, and a child, surrounded by motifs symbolic and ornamental characteristic of the artist. In the composition one can see, among other elements, a white bird, stylized plants, stars, and geometric forms. The figures are rendered with simplified, expressive shapes and a strong outline. The intense juxtaposition of greens, reds, blues, yellows, and blacks creates a striking and decorative whole. The work is oil on masonite. It has the original, old Schleiper frame. Dimensions: about 80 × 60 cm Inventory number on the reverse: H.A. 150 2. Second composition The second work presents a centrally placed woman, surrounded by stylized plant motifs, a bird, and abstract and geometric elements. This composition is particularly characteristic of Haeck’s artistic language. Simplified facial features, a bold contour line, geometricization of the silhouette, and bold color create a highly recognizable image. Particularly interesting are the contrasting surfaces of red, green, blue, yellow, and black and the decorative elements surrounding the central figure. The work is oil on masonite. It has the original, old Schleiper frame. Dimensions: about 90 × 70 cm Inventory number on the reverse: H.A. 147 3. Third composition The third work has a somewhat different, more expressive and painterly character. It depicts a group of female figures and a child against a landscape with architectural elements and a large, stylized motif in the background. Compared with the first two compositions, the artist employs a more free manner of applying color here. There are various layers and color transitions that give the piece a painterly depth and expressiveness. The work is behind glass and executed on paper. Because of the method, it could be etching, aquatint, or a related graphic technique. Determining the exact technique would require direct examination of the original work. The work also has the original, old Schleiper frame. Dimensions: about 60 × 80 cm Inventory number on the reverse: H.A. 143 Original Schleiper frames A particular merit of the entire set is that all three works retain their original Schleiper frames. The frames are old, highly decorative, and suitably chosen to match the nature of the works. These are not contemporary, casual frames, but preserved elements of the historical presentation of the works. They add aesthetic and collector’s value to the set. Inventory numbers On the reverses of all three works the original markings have been preserved: 1. H.A. 150 2. H.A. 147 3. H.A. 143 That all three works carry numbers from the same series is particularly interesting. It may indicate that they were at some point registered, catalogued, or originated from a single collection or set. About the artist – Rigobert Haeck (1912–2005) Rigobert Haeck was born August 23, 1912, in Leupegem, near Oudenaarde, and died August 9, 2005, in Oudenaarde. He was a versatile Belgian artist: painter, draftsman, graphic artist, etcher, ceramicist, sculptor, and designer of tapestries. He largely educated himself, although he did attend classes at the Academy in Oudenaarde. His artistic development was very varied. He began with figurative work, then developed toward lyrical abstraction, and later returned to his own individual form of figuration. In his later figurative work, motifs were increasingly simplified and built from geometric planes and color fields. His artistic language is characterized by a strong contour, geometric simplification, expressive use of color, and a particular combination of figurative and abstract elements. Women and birds are recurring themes in his work, alongside landscapes, nature motifs, flowers, and other human and natural motifs. In addition to painting, Haeck was also active in ceramics and sculpture. He created sculptural ceramic forms and bronze sculptures cast using the lost-wax technique. Important in his oeuvre were graphic techniques, including etching. Haeck was also active in the cultural life of Oudenaarde and the wider region. His works were shown at various Belgian exhibitions and within artistic circles. In 1960 he exhibited, among others, with other artists in Zottegem, Ghent, Dendermonde, and Leupegem. For his ceramic work he received the Gold State Medal in 1959. In 1960 he received the Talense Prize and the Grand Prix de Peinture of the city of Ostend. In 2003 an exhibition dedicated to his work was organized in Oudenaarde. His artistic activity is also noted in international reference databases on art history. The Getty Research Institute – Union List of Artist Names (ULAN) documents Rigobert Haeck as a Belgian painter, sculptor, and ceramicist, and also lists him as a graphic artist and etcher. Presence in art trade and international market Rigobert Haeck’s work is documented in international art databases and auction archives, and his works appear in catalogs of auction houses and among art dealers. Haeck’s works can be found on international art-market platforms and auction archives such as Invaluable, MutualArt, and askART. His works have also been offered by Belgian auction houses and specialized dealers, including pieces from private collections with documented gallery provenance. A particularly notable example is a Haeck work from 1956, offered with provenance from Galerie De Vuyst in Lokeren and the De Mey-Lippens / Fondation Sogefa II collection. This confirms that his work is not only of local interest but is documented in wider Belgian and international art trade. Condition All three works are in very good condition, preserving their natural character and patina from aging. The original Schleiper frames are also preserved in very good condition. Due to the age of the objects, minor, natural signs of time may be present. These should be regarded as part of the history and character of the works. Dimensions 1. First work: approximately 80 × 60 cm – oil on masonite – H.A. 150. 2. Second work: approximately 90 × 70 cm – oil on masonite – H.A. 147. 3. Third work: approximately 60 × 80 cm – paper, probably etching/aquatint or a related graphic technique – H.A. 143. All three works are signed, framed in original Schleiper frames, and have preserved inventory numbers on the reverses. Summary This is a very interesting and decorative set of three large, signed works by Belgian artist Rigobert Haeck. The set showcases different aspects of Haeck’s characteristic artistic language: the fusion of figuration and abstraction, geometric simplification, strong contour lines, expressive fields of color, and recurring motifs such as human figures, women, children, birds, and elements of nature. The three works also stand out for their large formats, distinctive decorative character, and the preservation of the original Schleiper frames. A particularly intriguing collector’s aspect is the presence on the reverses of all three works of inventory numbers H.A. 150, H.A. 147, and H.A. 143. The corresponding numbering may indicate earlier joint registration, cataloguing, or provenance from a single collection. The artist is documented in international art-history reference databases, and his works are documented on the international art market, in auction archives, galleries, and specialized art platforms. The three works are offered exclusively as one cohesive set.
