Ring - 18 kt. Yellow gold - Georgian 1820

This elegant 18K gold wedding band, dating from the Georgian period circa 1820, features alternating lozenge shapes and stylised floral motifs. The refined filigree decoration and intricate granulation showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of the era. The piece carries a lion’s head hallmark, indicative of its Dutch origin, adding an extra layer of historical charm. To wear such a jewel, over 200 years old, is to carry a piece of history, steeped in romance and lasting legacy. Antique jewelry object group ring, wedding band Condition very good condition Country of origin Netherlands Style Georgian - Georgian style is the name given in most English-speaking countries to the set of styles current between 1720 and 1840. It is eponymous for the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover—George I of Great Britain, George II of Great Britain, George III of the United Kingdom, and George IV of the United Kingdom—who reigned in continuous succession from August 1714 to June 1830. See also: Georgian Period ca. 1820 Material 18K warm yellow gold (touchstone tested) Technique This jewel features a filigree decoration, which is in fact thin gold wire twisted into refined motifs, in this case elegant little balls. You can also notice the use of granulation on this piece. Granulation is a technique where the goldsmith uses very small balls (granules) of metal, which are not soldered to the piece but welded. Both techniques demand very high skills and precision from the maker. Hallmarks On the outside of the ring is a lion's head, facing left, which is a Dutch hallmark used from 1814 onwards. On one corner of a lozenge shape, also on the outside, there is a mark that may either be a damage or the remnant of a stamp. Additionally, there is a capital letter 'G', also on the outside. Dimensions band width 0,68 cm (0,27 inch) Weight 2,60 gram (1,67 dwt) Ring size Continental EU: 63 & 20 , Size USA: 10¼ , Size UK: U Resizing Resizing is possible but because of the age of the ring we prefer to leave it untouched. Such pieces frequently bear marks of this tender care. Furthermore, we present our antique and vintage jewellery in its authentic state, refraining from removing scratches or applying rhodium plating to white gold items. Our priority is to preserve the genuine allure and history of each piece. However, as the new owner, you have the option to take it to a local goldsmith for a cosmetic refresh, should you choose.
