Robert Molyneux, London - fine and interesting 18ct pocket chronometer presented by Prince Albert to Henry Dundas Trotter R.N, Commander of the Expedition to the Niger for the abolition of the Slave Trade, No. 2252, London 1840, signed gilt movement with split bimetallic balance, helical hairspring, diamond endstone, Earnshaw spring detent escapement, signed white Roman numeral dial with outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial and gold hands, engine turned consular case with engraved royal cypher to the centre case back, inscribed to the inner case 'Presented by His Royal Highness Prince Albert to Captain H. Dundas Trotter R.N, Commander of the Expedition to the Niger for the abolition of the slave trade 23 March 1841', case maker 'JD', 153.8gm, 56mm ** Sold with research papers and a letter from the National Maritime Museum dated 19th March 1973. Confirming Captain Dundas Trotter, was appointed captain of the Albert steamer, and commanded an expedition to the coast of Africa.
