Its “Zenith” nickname comes from the use of the Zenith El Primero as the base for the Rolex Calibre 4030. Rolex extensively modified the original Zenith movement, reducing its frequency from 36,000 to 28,800 vibrations per hour and adapting the movement to Rolex's technical standards. This generation therefore occupies a particularly interesting position between the manually wound Daytona models of the previous era and the later generation equipped with Rolex's fully in-house automatic chronograph movement.
