Saint James 1885 - 1.0 Litre

Saint James 1885 (1 Litre / 47% ABV) – A Legendary Piece of Spirits History Distilled in Martinique in 1885, this extraordinary expression from Saint James stands as one of the oldest, rarest, and most celebrated rums in existence. Produced during the golden era of the Saint-Pierre distillery prior to the tragic 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, it offers an unrepeatable glimpse into 19th-century rum craftsmanship. Bottled at a remarkable 47% ABV - a signature strength for Saint James historical releases - it arrives in the brand’s iconic square glass bottle imported by Lambert. Decades of bottle aging have transformed the spirit, rounding out its original fresh cane profile into a deep, velvety elixir. The bouquet reveals complex notes of aged leather, rich marmalade, dark chocolate, cedarwood, and delicate cigar box aromas. On the palate, it delivers a harmonious structure dominated by dried fruits, warm spice, roasted nuts, and subtle oak, concluding in a exceptionally long, meditative finish. Kept in private collections for generations, the overall condition of the label, glass, and fill level remains remarkably well-preserved given its vast age. Universally revered by rum connoisseurs and historians alike, it represents far more than a liquid - it is a liquid artifact of immense historical value. This lot presents a monumental opportunity for collectors seeking a true holy grail of rum-making heritage.
