Salvador Rodriguez Bronchú (1913-1999) - El Pueblo

Title: The Town ㅤ School: Valencian School, Godella School (20th century) ㅤ Author: Salvador Rodríguez Bronchú (1913-1999) ㅤ Style: Valencian post-Impressionism and characterful landscape painting ㅤ Technique: Oil on panel ㅤ Condition: Condition of conservation in line with its age. Shows signs of aging and surface wear, especially in the frame, preserving its aesthetic and decorative appeal. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the Valencian pictorial tradition of the 20th century, particularly to the so-called School of Godella, an artistic current characterized by its luminous interpretation of the Mediterranean landscape, rich chromatics and an expressive brushwork with post-Impressionist influence. The painting reflects the influence of Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench (1849-1916), especially in freedom of execution, treatment of natural light and spontaneous representation of popular scenes. It also shows affinities with the landscape tradition of José Navarro Llorens (1867-1923), particularly in sensitivity to rural environments and interpretation of traditional Valencian architecture. Salvador Rodríguez Bronchú (Godella, Valencia, 1913-1999) was a prominent Spanish painter and one of the representatives of the School of Godella. He began his artistic training in his father’s workshop, the painter and set designer Francisco Rodríguez Cabanes, and later studied with the painter Juan Belda. An admirer of Ignacio Pinazo and José Navarro Llorens, he developed a pictorial production focused especially on landscapes, rural scenes and genre compositions. In his early years he was known as the painter of the grays, due to the predominance of soft and muted tones in his compositions. Later he evolved toward a painting of greater chromatic richness and material density, characterized by expressive use of the spatula and a notable compositional capacity. Throughout his career he received numerous honors, including a Second National Medal of Fine Arts in 1957 and the Gold Medal of the City of Godella in 1978. His work is represented in public and private collections, constituting a significant contribution to Valencian landscape painting of the 20th century. ㅤ The painting represents a picturesque street in a Mediterranean village, characterized by traditional whitewashed facades, clay-tiled roofs and small windows that line a gently sloping street. The composition conveys the essence of popular architecture and the serenity of small rural settlements in inland Valencia. In the foreground, the lay of a street in ochre and gray tones rises softly toward the background. To the right, a succession of traditional houses develops, whose white façades receive a diffuse illumination that emphasizes the irregularities of their surfaces and the architectural volumes. In one of the accesses there is a donkey with light tones, placed beside a shaded entrance, incorporating a folkloric element that reinforces the authenticity and rural character of the scene. On the left side, humbler constructions with inclined roofs and earthy-toned walls can be seen, while in the distance a mountain range emerges, adding depth and visually linking the architectural ensemble with the natural landscape. The vegetation protruding between the buildings introduces small green and yellowish notes that contrast with the whitish tones of the façades. The sky, worked with a soft range of gray-green and blue-tinged hues, envelops the scene in a tranquil and luminous atmosphere. The painting stands out for its loose brushwork, expressive application of matter and simplification of architectural details, characteristic resources of the post-Impressionist language. The artist manages to convey the texture of the walls, the irregularity of the roofs and the effects of natural lighting through a balanced combination of impasto and transparencies. The composition presents an interesting play of perspectives that leads the eye toward the mountain landscape in the background, generating a sense of depth and spatial continuity. The work is signed in the lower right corner, where Rodríguez Bronchú’s signature can be distinguished in a reddish tone. It is an attractive representation of the traditional urban landscape, where popular architecture, the presence of animals and chromatic sensitivity combine to offer an evocative interpretation of rural Mediterranean life. ㅤ The painting is presented in a wide wooden frame with an aged gold finish and bronzed tones. Its design features a slightly rough textured surface, with stepped profiles and a discreet inner molding with greenish nuances that create a harmonious transition to the pictorial surface. Its sober and elegant, classically inspired aesthetics complement the painting’s color palette and enhance its landscape character. The frame shows signs of use and aging typical of the passage of time, preserving a decorative presence appropriate to the overall work. ㅤ Observations: The artwork may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will need photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. ㅤ Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding measurements or weight of the item. In no case will PremiArt cover this surcharge. ㅤ The courier that must cross the Swiss border may be delayed much more than usual, so if possible, to speed up processing, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so the customer can unlock it and have it reach its destination. Experience has shown this is the most effective solution for both parties. ㅤ Due to the high volume of shipments, it is possible that the order is delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience.
