Details of the artwork • Subject: It is a theatrical portrait of a kabuki actor from the prominent Sawamura family (suggested by the family crest or mon on the clothing and the calligraphy in the top left where the family name 澤村/Sawamura is partially readable). • Style: The print displays the characteristic, dynamic style of Kunisada's actor portraits (yakusha-e), with lush patterns on the kimono, expressive facial features and a rich and detailed staging. • Signature: Bottom right the print is signed with Kunisada's artist name from his later period: Toyokuni ga (豊国画, 'drawn by Toyokuni'), accompanied by publisher and censorship seals from the late Edo period (likely around the 1850s). The print is carefully packaged and sent by registered mail.
