According to legend, he had a vision in which an angel appeared to him with a violin. This portrayal of legends is found in many painters, especially of the 17th century. A famous painting by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called Guercino, from around 1623, in which the painter depicts the saint in this moment of ecstasy.
