Seiko - Business-A - No reserve price - 8346-9000 - Men - 1967

ow available at auction from Second Vintage A handsome and reliable 1960s Seiko Business-A, this classic day-date model features a beautifully preserved silver sunburst dial. Powered by the 27-jewel Seiko 8346A automatic movement, this timepiece presents a highly wearable and authentic 1960s configuration. Brand: Seiko Model: Business-A Reference Number: 8346-9000 Serial Number: 7160875 Movement: Automatic, Seiko Caliber 8346A, 27 jewels Dial: Silver sunburst with applied gold-tone indices Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-plated, stainless steel caseback Production Year: 1967 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +7+10s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The exceptionally clean and well-preserved dial features a strong silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully. Applied gold-tone indices and crisp printed text provide excellent legibility, while a day and date complication in English sits at the three o'clock position. Under magnification, very minor dust or microscopic spotting is visible, though the overall presentation remains highly attractive. The original gold-tone dauphine hands show noticeable age-related oxidation and spotting on their surfaces, contrasting with the brilliant dial. Case and Crystal The gold-plated case with its stainless steel caseback displays honest wear consistent with age, showing typical plating degradation on the edges. There are visible scratches and handling marks throughout, alongside plating wear and brassing on the lug edges and high contact points. The integrated gold-tone bezel exhibits scratches and minor plating wear consistent with the rest of the case. An unsigned gold-tone fluted crown sits at the side, with its plating appearing intact. The domed acrylic crystal is clear with no major scratches or cracks visible; minor micro-scratches may be present but do not impede dial visibility. Movement Inside beats the Seiko Caliber 8346A, an automatic movement featuring 27 jewels. The plates and bridges are clean, showing no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy scratching, and the rotor is present and intact. The movement engravings clearly read SEIKO, 27 JEWELS, JAPAN, and 8346A. Recording +7+10s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrast stitching and an unsigned buckle. The strap shows light wear and remains in good wearable condition. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch presents an exceptionally clean dial that contrasts with the honest, age-related wear on the gold-plated case. The case displays visible scratches and expected brassing on the lug edges and high contact points, while the hands show noticeable oxidation. Supported by the recorded timegrapher data, the movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 37 mm in diameter, excluding the crown. Remarks This Seiko Business-A offers a beautifully preserved silver sunburst dial paired with the reliable 8346A automatic movement. The classic 1960s day-date configuration provides excellent daily utility and authentic period character. History The Seiko Business-A line was introduced during Japan's economic boom to cater to the rising professional salaryman class. Designed to be both elegant and practical for daily office wear, these models prioritized clear legibility and reliable automatic movements. This particular example is powered by the Seiko Caliber 8346A, a 27-jewel automatic movement equipped with Diashock protection, reflecting Seiko's commitment to robust mechanical performance during the late 1960s.
