Shmidt.Art - Porsche - Porsche 911 Carrera 996 - 2000s

A premium automotive poster dedicated to the 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera (996) — the generation that introduced the 911 to a new era of water-cooled engineering while preserving the unmistakable rear-engined character of Porsche’s legendary sports car. This artwork celebrates the 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé in a deep metallic blue finish, combining the cleaner, more modern lines of the 996 generation with a carefully structured technical presentation. The composition features a large three-quarter illustration accompanied by front, rear, side and top views, a detailed flat-six engine study, a driver-focused cockpit illustration and clearly arranged mechanical specifications. A New Generation of the 911 The 996 represented one of the most significant transformations in the history of the Porsche 911. It introduced an extensively redesigned platform, a more aerodynamic body and, most importantly, a transition from the traditional air-cooled flat-six to a modern water-cooled engine. Despite these major technical changes, the fundamental concept remained unmistakably 911: a compact 2+2 sports car with a horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine positioned behind the rear axle. The 2002 Carrera For the 2002 model year, the Carrera received an enlarged 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine, replacing the earlier 3.4-litre unit. Producing approximately 320 PS, the engine delivered significantly stronger performance while retaining the naturally aspirated response associated with the Carrera. In rear-wheel-drive form with the six-speed manual transmission, the Carrera preserved the traditional mechanical layout that had defined generations of Porsche 911 models. 3.6-Litre Water-Cooled Flat-Six Mounted behind the rear axle is a 3.6-litre water-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. The adoption of liquid cooling represented a fundamental engineering change for the 911, allowing Porsche to meet increasingly demanding requirements for performance, emissions and refinement while continuing to develop the flat-six concept. Producing approximately 320 PS, the naturally aspirated engine combines high-revving performance with the distinctive characteristics of Porsche’s boxer-six architecture. The detailed mechanical illustration positioned at the bottom of the artwork highlights the compact and complex layout of the rear-mounted power unit. Six-Speed Manual Transmission The 3.6-litre flat-six is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, delivering power to the rear wheels. This combination maintains the direct, driver-focused character associated with the Carrera while providing the performance expected from a modernized generation of the 911. Evolution of the 911 Design The 996 introduced a cleaner and more aerodynamic interpretation of the traditional Porsche silhouette. Its smoothly integrated bumpers, lower nose, flowing roofline and distinctive headlamp design clearly separated it from the preceding air-cooled 993 generation. For the updated Carrera, revised front-end styling further distinguished the later 996 models and gave the car a more mature appearance while retaining the compact proportions and characteristic sloping rear profile of the 911. Driver-Focused Cockpit The interior of the 996 represented a major departure from earlier generations. The cabin became more integrated and contemporary, with a redesigned dashboard, modern center console and updated controls. The characteristic Porsche instrument cluster remained positioned directly in front of the driver, while the manual gear lever and compact driving position maintained the sporting focus of the Carrera. The cockpit illustration included in the artwork captures this transition between traditional Porsche design and the more modern interior architecture introduced with the 996. Detailed Illustrated Composition The artwork includes: Large three-quarter illustration of the 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera (996) Deep metallic blue exterior finish Detailed front and rear technical views Accurate side-profile presentation Overhead technical view Detailed 3.6-litre water-cooled flat-six engine illustration Period-inspired driver’s cockpit Classic Porsche five-spoke wheel design Distinctive facelift-era 996 headlamp design Rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture Clearly arranged engine, power, drivetrain, transmission and top-speed specifications Vintage technical typography and archival-inspired presentation The warm ivory background, deep blue bodywork and precise monochrome technical illustrations create a refined retro-industrial aesthetic. The large central vehicle remains the visual focus, while the surrounding technical drawings highlight the engineering and design changes that made the 996 such an important generation in the development of the Porsche 911. Specifications Model: Porsche 911 Carrera (996) Year: 2002 Engine: 3.6-litre water-cooled flat-six Power: Approximately 320 PS Drive: Rear-wheel drive Transmission: 6-speed manual Top speed: Approximately 285 km/h Engine position: Rear Induction: Naturally aspirated Body: 2-door Coupé The poster makes a distinctive decorative piece for a garage, workshop, office, studio, living room, showroom or automotive collection. It is particularly suited to enthusiasts of Porsche, classic and modern 911 models, naturally aspirated sports cars, German engineering and iconic automotive design. A celebration of a pivotal generation in Porsche history — the 911 that marked the transition from traditional air-cooled engineering to the modern water-cooled era while preserving the fundamental character of the Carrera. The poster will be carefully packed for shipping to ensure safe delivery.
