General description and style influences • Item name: Antique bedroom nightstand / small bedroom cabinet. • Period: 1920s - 1930s (first half of the 20th century). • Style: Historicizing furniture with an Art Deco effect. The clean, angular basic shape refers to the Art Deco era, while the robust legs and central carved motif recall the styles of earlier historical eras (such as neo-renaissance or colonial style features). Design and visual characteristics • Structure: Single-door, compact, closed storage unit. The top panel extends slightly beyond the line of the cabinet body, which gives the furniture a classic and elegant closure. • Central decoration: An openwork, carved wooden rosette (medallion) is located in the geometric center of the door. This decoration gives the cabinet a unique character and sets it apart from the mass-produced furniture of the period. • Handle: On the left edge of the door there is a round handle in silver or patinated metal (possibly with a glass/bakelite effect), which makes it easier to open and creates a subtle contrast with the dark wood. • Plinth: The most special parts of the furniture are the cantilevered, curved legs. These are not simple straight legs: the wood carving is wavy, decorated, and there is a stable base at the bottom of each leg, which gives the furniture a prestigious, massive appearance. Use of materials and surface treatment • Material: Solid wood frame, covered with noble wood veneer on the front and top. • Wood grain and color: The door shows a very characteristic, concentric, dark-toned root veneer (probably walnut or maple). The surface treatment is called “floured” or smoked, where the edges are darker and the wood becomes lighter towards the center, giving depth and drama to the front of the furniture. Today's interior design and use value This piece is a real “statement” piece of furniture in today's interiors. It not only looks good in classic or vintage bedrooms, but can also be an excellent focal point when placed in a modern, minimalist environment. Due to its small size, it functions perfectly as a bedside table, a side table by the living room, as a storage unit in the hallway or even as a decoration for a reading corner. We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
