Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Side table - Wing Opening - Mahogany - Workbench
Elegant French Louis-Philippe-style writing desk, made of mahogany in the 19th century, conceived as a refined feminine dressing and writing piece that combines functionality and artisanal quality. Its design fully responds to the sober and balanced taste characteristic of this period, where curved lines and restrained volumes replace the ornamental exuberance of earlier eras. The piece presents a central body with a sinuously shaped front, topped by a discreetly moulded drawer with the original lock, while the upper lid incorporates an ingenious opening system. The central tablet lifts to reveal a folding mirror framed in wood, accompanied by an interior compartment divided to organize writing tools, correspondence, sewing or dressing items. On both sides unfold two folding wings that expand the usable surface, providing notable versatility and adapting to different daily needs. The structure rests on four slender turned legs joined by a central decorative frieze, a element that provides stability and at the same time visually enriches the overall set. The softly undulating forms of the skirt and the front reflect the contained elegance typical of Louis-Philippe furniture, characterized by its balance between comfort, functionality and refinement. The mahogany, carefully worked and polished, displays a deep warm reddish tone, highlighting the natural grain of the wood and giving the piece a distinguished presence. The interior, made in a lighter wood, creates an attractive chromatic contrast that accentuates the furniture’s build quality. For its multiple functionalities, its attractive design and the nobility of its materials, this desk constitutes a magnificent example of 19th-century French domestic furniture, an elegant and practical piece that preserves intact the charm of furniture designed for everyday use in bourgeois interiors of the era. Certified shipping and good packaging.
