Siebmacher - Erneuert und Vermehrtes Wappen-Buchs - 1696

“Renewed and Enlarged Armorial Book” by Johann Siebmacher 1696. Mostly colored, large-format armorial book with all 6 parts and the appendix, with an engraved frontispiece and about 12,000 heraldic representations, from 1,200 copper plates on 622 plates. The binding is rubbed, the corners are bumped and have been partly restored. The joints are slightly cracked and the front cover has a few stains. The coats of arms are tinted with later coloring. Some plates were not colored, and occasionally individual heraldic representations as well. Moreover, the appendix is uncolored. The pages are uniformly lightly browned. The first part shows light water margins in the upper area. From the second part onward, the discolorations and stains increase and become significantly stronger. Occasionally this results in small defects in the paper. The heraldic representations are however affected only rarely and mostly only slightly. Some pages in the fifth part have a small tear at the bottom outside the copper plate. Some pages were reinforced a little on the back at the bottom for this reason. Also a few copper plates in the sixth part and in the appendix show somewhat larger reinforcements on the back. In the appendix, copper plate 25 and the following blank leaf are loose. The index at the end is in heavily used condition. Throughout there are marginal losses, tears, minor defects, and some unattractive restorations. The last seven leaves of the index also show small defects in the text area. Leaf D4 in the index has an added loss in a lower corner with text loss. The last five copper plates as well as the index have at the top a continuous small defect that extends toward the end, but outside the text area. Partly with a slight offset impression of the title pages. The title page of the first part was bound in before the frontispiece and the main title.
