[Signed] [First Edition] The Island of Sodor: Its People

Octavo. First edition, first impression. Illustrated with photographs and several pages of maps, with a bibliography. Bound in crisp blue cloth, with a gilt locomotive decoration to the front board and bright gilt lettering to the spine. The original dust jacket is not price-clipped. Both the book and dust jacket are in exceptionally fine condition. Signed by the Rev. W. Awdry on a specially designed bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Complete with the exceptionally scarce original paper band bearing the words "Special Autograph Edition - This book has been signed by The Rev. W. Awdry". A fascinating and detailed account of the background to The Railway Series, featuring Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends. An exceptionally rare and highly collectible copy, preserved in remarkable condition. Purchased new in 1989, the book has remained in the possession of its original owner ever since and is entirely unread. Remarkably, it retains the original brown paper wrapping from the time of purchase, a particularly unusual survival. The dust jacket flaps are secured to the front and rear pastedowns with adhesive tape, as confirmed by the original owner to have been present at the time of purchase. This was apparently done to prevent the dust jacket from being removed or displaced. The tape attachments are clearly shown in the accompanying photographs. An exceptionally scarce example in outstanding, virtually untouched condition, retaining its original Special Autograph Edition paper band and brown paper wrapping, with a documented history of single ownership dating back to 1989. A remarkable collector's copy of one of the most sought-after publications associated with the world of Thomas the Tank Engine.
