Sericho (Habaswein) pallasite, Isiolo County, Kenya. A stunning slice of a pallasite meteorite set in a sterling silver pendant of modern, asymmetric form. Boasting a metallic hue of silver with translucent inclusions in shades of caramel, toffee, and mocha, this shimmering shard of celestial matter is comprised of kamacite, an alloy of iron and nickel that creates the sparkling luster, as well as olivine (also known as peridot) crystal inclusions. Both sides of the slice have been polished to a lustrous finish, then covered with clear glass and set on a multi-strand ribbon necklace with a lobster claw clasp to be wearable. Hold this pendant up to the sun and watch the light cascade through the open bezel, illuminating the matrix throughout! An "out of this world" adornment that serves as a humbling reminder that we are all made of stardust. Pallasites are the rarest of the stony-iron meteorites, fewer than a hundred recognized among the tens of thousands of documented falls. They are thought to form at the boundary between the metallic core and the silicate mantle of a differentiated asteroid, where molten iron-nickel crystallized slowly around suspended olivine grains. The result is a natural composite no terrestrial process reproduces: a lattice of metal cradling gem-quality peridot. The Sericho mass, also catalogued as Habaswein, was recovered near the village of Sericho in Isiolo County, Kenya, where two herdsmen searching for camels came upon boulder-sized stones in 2016. Several tonnes were eventually collected, making Sericho one of the most abundant pallasites available to collectors and among the most generous in its rounded, honey-toned olivine. Item # 204986
