Silvery Moon - Newel Hunter

Silvery Moon by Newel Hunter Painting 16.0 x 20.0 :: Painted with metallic acrylic on an 16 x 20 x .25 inch canvas panel Silvery Moon is a perfect example of Hunter’s uniquely expressive style -- which so often results in arresting images with a sense of depth and sculptural form. This painting features a large circular form rendered in a textured metallic silver against a stark black background. The surface of the circle is highly detailed and tactile with an intricate pattern of ridges cracks and raised areas that create a sense of depth and complexity. The textural variations produce a dynamic interplay of light and shadow emphasizing the three-dimensional quality of the piece. The contrast between the shimmering metallic surface and the deep flat black backdrop further accentuates the prominence of the sculptural form. The use of a monochromatic palette enhances the focus on texture and form inviting you to engage more deeply with the surface qualities and the organic celestial feel of the shape. The texture suggests natural processes evoking imagery related to planetary surfaces geological formations and abstracted organic matter. There is an intriguing tension between the abstract and the evocative leaving room for personal interpretation while maintaining a strong visual impact. One thing for sure. This piece is impossible to ignore. In fact the quality of the raised texture and the smoothness of the metalic sheen invites touch.
