SOUTHERN AFRICA 1920 cover that was on the Handley Page 'Pioneer' that eight minutes after take-off from Beaufort West on 17th Feb, the pilot had to make a forced landing, which damaged the undercarriage, wings & motors. The mail was recovered and forwarded by train. It arrived at Johannesburg on 21st Feb. 422 letters were taken on board at Cape Town. Uncommon crash cover.
