The originals were captured in high resolution to reproduce every detail, colour and texture of the manuscripts. Contents Codex Madrid I (BNE Mss. 8937) – Tratado de Estática y Mechanica. Leonardo's treatise on mechanics: gears, levers, friction and mechanisms. Codex Madrid II (BNE Mss. 8936) – Tratado de Fortificación, Estática y Geometría. Fortification, geometry, statics and maps, including the hand-coloured map of the Arno valley. Study volume by Elisa Ruiz García (cARTEm Books), with transcription and translation of the original texts. Still sealed in its original shrink-wrap. Reproduction of Leonardo's red-chalk self-portrait that is also a mirror for reading Leonardo's mirror writing. Edition and certification Limited edition certified by notarial act. The print run is 77 copies numbered in Roman numerals, reserved for Legal Deposit, the BNE, the publisher and collaborators, and only 999 copies numbered in Arabic numerals worldwide. This set is no. 358. Both codices carry the same number. Each volume has its own notarial certificate, with the notary's stamp and signature and the adhesive seal of the Consejo General del Notariado (Fe Pública Notarial). Physical description Two volumes bound by hand in goatskin leather, sewn with hemp thread on a traditional loom. Both covers are blind-tooled with a geometric frame and floral tools. Spines have raised bands, lettered CODEX MADRID I / II – LEONARDO DA VINCI. Printed on Italian laid paper of the same type Leonardo used. Leaves are cut and individually aged to reproduce the originals: deckle edges, foxing, wear and toning, the BNE ownership stamps and the 18th-century Spanish title leaves. Leonardo's mirror script, pen-and-ink drawings and coloured passages reproduced in full. Handmade presentation case: black high-gloss lacquer with hinged side panels, opening onto an orange inner tray with suede-lined compartments for both volumes. Branded cARTEm Exclusive. Page format: 21.5 × 14.5 cm (publisher's specification). Condition: NEW. The volumes are unread, with no marks or wear beyond the deliberate ageing of the facsimile. The study volume is still sealed.
