Spain - Valencia; Vincent Garcia - Vita di Sanct Onofre - 1501-1520

A Valencian hagiography can be admired with a curious woodcut print on the cover: in the middle of a field, the body of Saint Onuphrius (Onofre) is seen with the halo, beard, and long hair. His arms are crossed, he is wrapped in furs up to the knees, awaiting burial from a holy hermit who indicates the location to two lions that want to open it. Who was Saint Onuphrius? He was an Egyptian monk who lived in the 4th century, first as a cenobite in Edico, in the monastery of Thebes, and later as a hermit. The image described above aims to remind and illuminate us about the life of Saint Onuphrius, thanking Pafnucius, who, venturing into the desert alone, found the saint, who had been in solitude and fasting for sixty years. After blessing the visitor, Onuphrius died. Pafnucius had undoubtedly answered a divine impulse that drove him toward this solitary encounter and this burial. Throughout the book, the pages are alternately printed and blank. Text in Valencian. Binding: parchment on a wooden board. Pages: 104+12 crd. Printing: 3000 copies. Religion - Hagiographies. Dust jacket for presentation in cloth bound with a gold-engraved leather spine containing a facsimile. Numbered by notary and signed by the printer-publisher. Laid paper specially produced. The shipment will be carried out with specific materials and insured for the sale value."}
