Spring in Hemelingen - Gary Westall

Spring in Hemelingen by Gary Westall Painting 9.5 x 11.8 :: I painted this picture en plein air in Hemelingen (Bremen). It is an oil painting on HDF and measures 24 × 30 cm. On that day the atmosphere was rather subdued and the light was subdued. At the same time I was drawn to the vibrant spring colours of the trees and shrubs. The bright orange in particular stands out clearly against the grey house and the overcast sky. Yet I had the feeling that spring had finally arrived. It was precisely this contrast that I wanted to capture: the calm rather dark surroundings and the fresh intense colours of nature. Signed lower right.
