STOGO – Viking figure – attributed to Herluf Gottschalk-Olsen – Denmark – probably the 1960s Charming ceramic Viking figurine from the Danish studio STOGO, attributed to Herluf Gottschalk-Olsen. The stylized design, horned helmet and striking blue eyes give this figure a quirky and recognizable character. With both hands the Viking holds a sword in front of his body. The earthenware is executed in warm earth tones, with cream- and dark brown glazes that beautifully contrast with the matte parts of the face and hands. The combination of rustic finish and playful design makes the figurine an attractive accent in a Scandinavian interior or a collection of vintage ceramics. On the underside the figure bears the pressed factory mark STOGO. The piece dates probably from the 1960s; the exact production year has not been established.
