Antique Umbertine / Victorian Photo Album with Cabinet Cards – Late 19th Century Antique photo album, datable between 1870 and 1900, complete with 35 cabinet-card photographs, 14 larger portraits, and 13 empty slots. The album features an elaborate leather cover (or period substitute) elegantly debossed and blind-stamped with elaborate geometric and floral motifs on the front board and a refined floral ornament on the back board. The item is missing the side metal closure clasp. Inside are preserved era-appropriate albumen photographic portraits mounted on stiff card, depicting gentlemen, ladies, and children in formal attire and classic studio poses. Several pages bear floral printed decorations intended to enhance the corresponding photo. The inner heavy-carton pages show signs of age and use. Noted are some tears, cracks, and various foxing. Nevertheless, the album retains its historical and collecting charm intact.
