Stunning Necklace with Amethyst and Diamonds, Featuring Antique Elements

Nemesia, is a genus of plants whose flowers bloom in various combinations of violet and white colours. There are wonderful pastel-colored species and cultivars, while others glow in the most intense violet—but they are always bicolored. This necklace shines in the same color combination: A large, crescent-shaped decorative element is permanently mounted on a flat-link chain. Diamonds totaling about one carat sparkle here in platinum settings; milgrains and shadow joints divide the element into sweeping arcs. A round-faceted amethyst set at the center then leads the eye to the design’s main feature: an impressive, large amethyst glowing with an intense violet hue, weighing approximately 60 carats. The amethyst is securely held in place by delicate prongs; only when viewed from the side does the gallery, composed of plant motifs, become visible. The necklace appears uniform, as if cast from a single mold. In fact, however, it consists of elements that were only recently combined to form a single piece of jewellery. The upper element with the diamonds was created around 1930. The clasp, set with a baguette-cut diamond, also dates from this period. The setting for the amethyst may have been created somewhat earlier, in the years c. 1900. However, the elements were likely only combined into a necklace more recently. The flat curb chain was added at that time, and all parts were uniformly coated with rhodium, so that they now shine with a uniform white luster. This provides the perfect backdrop for the large amethyst. The eye is drawn deep into the stone, where the light is reflected many times over and even rainbow colors sparkle: just like in a true elf’s mirror. We discovered the necklace in Hamburg.
