Table lamp - Onyx - Hand-chiselled-Brutalist

An exceptional Italian Brutalist table lamp from the 1970s, hand-sculpted from a substantial block of natural aragonite onyx and featuring two striking stylised human faces carved into opposing sides of the stone. The two faces emerge from the boldly chiselled surfaces, their angular features and deeply carved contours creating a powerful sculptural composition. Each face presents a different expression and character, allowing the lamp to be displayed from multiple perspectives. The design reflects the experimental and expressive approach to Italian Brutalist decorative art during the 1970s, combining figurative sculpture with functional lighting. The natural aragonite onyx displays remarkable mineral banding, with warm honey, caramel and deep brown flowing through translucent creamy-white stone. The contrasting colours emphasise the carved facial features and create depth throughout the sculpture. When illuminated, the translucent stone radiates a warm amber glow, dramatically revealing its natural mineral patterns and sculptural contours. The lamp rests on its original matching aragonite onyx base, displaying finely layered natural banding. Weighing 2.66 kg, it is a substantial decorative object that functions equally as a sculptural artwork and atmospheric table lamp.
