Tea service (19) - Geisha and wisteria - Thin-walled

Japanese Porcelain Tea Service for Eight — Geisha and Wisteria Decoration An elegant Japanese porcelain service for eight, distinguished by its delicate, thin-walled construction and colourful decoration. Figures in traditional Japanese dress appear among cascading wisteria blossoms, with pink, yellow and green details against an ivory-white background. Rich iron-red rims, handles and spout frame the decoration and give the ensemble a striking, harmonious appearance. The lightness of the porcelain adds to its refined character. The set comprises 19 objects: • 8 cups • 8 matching saucers • 1 pot with lid • 1 sugar bowl with lid • 1 milk jug The two lids are included in addition to the 19 objects. Red marks are present on the bases, as shown in the photographs. The manufacturer has not been conclusively identified. The service is provisionally attributed to the first half of the 20th century; the exact production date is unknown. No chips. Signs of age and use, including wear to parts of the coloured decoration, are visible in the photographs.
