TEAC - V-900X 3-heads dBx Audio-cassette deck

The TEAC V-900X is a high-end, advanced 3-head stereo cassette deck, manufactured by the Japanese company TEAC between 1982 and 1987. At the time, this model—positioned just below the legendary Z-series (such as the Z-6000)—represented the absolute pinnacle of the company's product lineup. Among audio enthusiasts, the deck is renowned for its exceptional sound quality, a direct-drive capstan motor, and a sophisticated automatic calibration system. Key Features & Specifications • 3-Head Design: Equipped with wear-resistant Cobalt Amorphous heads (separate heads for recording and playback). This allows for real-time monitoring of the recording quality directly from the tape (source/tape monitoring). • 3-Motor Transport: The deck features a reliable three-motor configuration: a DC FG-servo motor for the direct-drive capstan, a DC motor for the reels, and a separate auxiliary motor for the mechanism (such as the door operation). • Auto-Calibration (Auto Cal): A built-in computer automatically tests the cassette and precisely adjusts the bias, frequency equalization, and recording level to ensure optimal results. • Noise Reduction: In addition to the standard Dolby B and C systems, the V-900X is equipped with dbx (Type II). With dbx engaged, the deck can achieve an impressive signal-to-noise ratio of over 80 to 92 dB. • Tape compatibility: Full support for Type I (Normal), Type II (Chrome/CrO2), and Type IV (Metal) cassettes.
