Technical instrument - United States - 1940-1950 - P-51 aircraft horizon tour

The item shown in the image is an antique artificial horizon (Gyro Horizon Indicator), specifically the historic AN5736-1 model widely used on American military aircraft (such as P-51 Mustang fighters or B-17 bombers) during World War II and in the 1950s. This analog instrument, operating primarily by pneumatic (vacuum) means, serves to indicate the aircraft's attitude (pitch and roll) relative to the horizon line. The main instructions for using the controls visible on the instrument's front include: 1. Locking Knob (Caging Knob - bottom right) • Main function: It is used to mechanically lock and center the internal gyroscope (function called "caging" or cage-ing). • How to use: By turning the knob in the direction indicated by the arrow ("PULL TO CAGE" or simply "TO CAGE"), the internal mechanism is forcibly realigned to perfectly match the horizontal zero.
