Ethiopian religious art on canvas; Last Judgment and the Second Coming of Christ (or the Harrowing of Hell / the Descent of Christ into Hell). What you see in the image: • Central figure (Top): Christ in a mandorla (an almond-shaped halo) with green and orange vestment, seated in majesty. • Left side (Top): The Virgin Mary (with a yellow aureole) and a group of saints or apostles with raised hands in intercession. • Right side (Top): Witnesses, apostles or angels looking at Christ, beside a shroud or risen dead. • Bottom-left: A procession of the elect or angels in white robes (often the saved or martyrs). • Bottom-right: Sinners or the condemned held by blue demons or spirits. • Bottom (Center): A large blue devil or Satan in a fiery hellish flood, with teeth and flames devouring the damned. • Inscriptions: Ge’ez script (the classical alphabet of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church) above the figures. The canvas bears signs of use over time, clearly visible in photographs. The canvas has been stored for years in a folded condition, visible on back photos. Artifact is professionally shipped.
