TIBET - 15th century Pair of sutra cover plates (upper and lower). The upper cover is deeply carved with a rectangular medallion framed by friezes of lotus petals and beaded friezes depicting three deities seated on gilded thrones and rows of monks. The lower cover is carved with the same frames and a spouting vase from which emerge plant scrolls forming medallions populated by the eight auspicious symbols (ashtamangala) and bodhisattvas. Traces of gilding. 12.8 x 37.7 cm
