Alle Auktionen / Möbel, Design und Spiegel / Torben Orskov - Max Brüel - Candleholder Hi-Fi / Trumpet (3) - Brass
Max Brüel – “Hi-Fi” Trumpet Candlesticks (Torben Ørskov & Co., Denmark), Icons of Danish Modernism from the 1960s–'70s. The candlesticks shown here are the well-known “Hi-Fi” model by the renowned Danish architect, designer and jazz musician Max Brüel (1927–1995). They were produced by Torben Ørskov & Co., better known under the label T.Ø., which from the 1950s played a major role in spreading Danish modern design. The stamp on the bottom – “MADE IN DENMARK – T.Ø.” – is exactly the mark Ørskov used. Designer: Max Brüel • Model name: Hi-Fi candlesticks • Producer: Torben Ørskov & Co. (Denmark) • Material: Solid brass (polished) • Period: ca. 1962–1975 • Style: Scandinavian minimalism / Danish Modern The design stands out for: • the trumpet-shaped foot • a slim, elegant stem • a broad dish holder for candles • the characteristic, almost architectural balance between lightness and sculptural form Brüel designed these candlesticks with the same clean, organic lines that are also found in his buildings and jazz compositions: rhythm, balance, and pure form. Torben Ørskov & Co. (T.O.) Ørskov was an influential Danish producer and publisher of design objects. The company produced and distributed work by, among others: • Max Brüel • Acton Bjørn & Sigvard Bernadotte • Richard Meier • Herbert Krenchel • The form is identical to the Hi-Fi series (also known as the “Trumpet Candlesticks”). The foot and holder are exactly as known from Ørskov catalogs. Current market value (2025) Based on recent sale prices of similar sets: 3 pieces: €160 – €240 Dimensions: 2 x H 13 cm x Ø 5.3 cm x D 9.0 cm 1 x H 9.0 cm x Ø 5.5 cm x Ø 9.0 cm Total Weight: 1600 grams These three objects are in nicely preserved condition without defects, with a light patina from age and use. They have not been treated to a patina look and it is possible to rub them down, but I will leave that to the eventual buyer. They will be securely packaged for shipping, sent by registered mail and insured.
