United Kingdom - Service medallion - Masonic jewel Past...

Up for auction: a genuine and fascinating English Freemason breast jewel for a Past Master (ex Venerable Master) dating from 1975. The piece is of excellent manufacture and was made in solid Sterling silver plated gold (silver gilt). On the front of the compass-and-square emblem are the four official hallmarks of the British assay office that guarantee its authenticity and historical value: T&S: Brand of the prestigious manufacturer Turner & Simson (Birmingham). Lion passant: official certification for sterling silver .925. Anchor: symbol of the Birmingham Assay Office. Date letter: cursive letter consistent with the year 1975. The back of the jewel features a clear and beautiful personalized engraving that traces its history: "W.Bro.R.F.Shelley- 86th W.M.1975-76-27th November 1975." Details and condition: the metal and the gold plating are well preserved. The original light-blue ribbon shows a patina of age and central signs of wear that testify to its real ritual use in the lodge, increasing the piece’s historical charm. There is a vintage inventory paper tag. An indispensable piece for militaria collectors, Freemasonry memorabilia, or vintage English silverware. Tracked shipping and careful packaging. As for the second medal, it is an attendance jewel belonging to the British fraternity "Grand United Order of the Knights of the". On the reverse of the eight-point silver star the original inscriptions are clearly legible, revealing the exact history of this decoration: THE AWARDEE: the fraternal rank and the owner’s name are listed: COMP.C.C. NEURICK (where comp stands for companion, i.e., the first degree of the order) THE PERIOD OF AWARD: the star specifies it was conferred for the semester ending December 1937 and May 1938. ENCAMPMENT: at the top is engraved the local encampment number: No. 9 T.M. BARRON ENCAMPMENT. THE SILVER HALLMARKS: at the bottom on the tip of the star are visible traditional British guarantee marks, certifying that the object is solid Sterling silver and has been registered with one of the United Kingdom assay offices. The bars on the blue ribbon visible on the front testify to the constant presence and militancy of the companion Neurick within the order even in the years following, up to the end of World War II (1948).
